Insect Identifications
Rick Steinau of Ask the Exterminator says insect identification is the very first step to take when planning to treat for an insect pest. Have it properly identified. Collect the insect specimen, but put it in something that will protect it so you do not end up delivering it in unidentifiable pieces.

Where would a good place to take an insect for identification be?
There's a college near us, maybe a dept. there?
I know there are people that identify plants in each county of a state, is there something similar for bugs?
I'm pretty sure what we saw at random was a "tree roach" or "wood roach" but we'd like to be sure if we see another one.
