Insects have been around for a lot longer than people, much longer. It is currently believed that the oldest human civilizations date back to 8000 B.C.E. and the human species evolved somewhere about 700,000 years ago. Insects, on the other hand, have been on the planet for about 300 million years. That's a big difference.
